Building a massive castle, an underground fortress, or an entire village is one of the best things you can do with friends in Enshrouded. The game's building system gives you plenty of freedom, but larger projects can become messy when everyone starts building wherever they want.
From choosing the right location to managing resources and player permissions, a little planning can make a huge difference.
Whether you're playing with a few friends or running a larger Enshrouded server, here's how to organize big building projects without making things unnecessarily complicated.
Plan Your Base Around Flame Altars
Before starting a large build, you need to understand how Flame Altars work.
Every Flame Altar creates a protected building area where your structures and terrain changes remain permanent. Changes made outside this area can reset after approximately 30 minutes or when the server restarts.
A newly placed Flame Altar provides a 40×40×40 building area, which can eventually be upgraded to 160×160×160.
This means you should plan your base around the available space rather than building wherever you find an empty spot.
For larger projects, consider the following:
- Upgrade your Flame Altar before starting massive structures.
- Leave enough room for walls, towers, and future expansions.
- Keep important buildings within the protected area.
- Avoid using too many Flame Altars for small, unnecessary outposts.
Remember that the number of Flame Altars available to your world is limited. Saving some for future exploration and additional bases is usually worthwhile.
Choose A Location That Works For Your Build
Enshrouded's terrain editing system allows you to create buildings that would be difficult in many other survival games.
Instead of building everything on flat ground, you can use the landscape itself.
For example, hillsides work well for underground bases, cliffs are great for fortresses, and open fields provide plenty of space for villages.
Think about nearby resources, too. Building close to stone, trees, and useful crafting materials reduces the time you'll spend traveling back and forth.
It's also worth deciding whether you want one enormous shared base or several smaller buildings connected by pathways.
A village usually works better for communities where everyone wants their own house, while a castle gives players the opportunity to work together on one large structure.
Give Everyone Their Own Building Areas
One of the easiest ways to organize multiplayer construction is to let players work on different sections.
If you're building a castle, one player could design the entrance, another could build the towers, and someone else could focus on the interior.
For villages, you can simply give everyone a plot of land.
However, you should also consider who has permission to modify the base.
Enshrouded dedicated servers support user groups with different permissions. These are particularly useful when you're inviting players who aren't part of your regular building group.
Some important settings include:
canEditBase– Allows players to build, remove, and modify structures.canExtendBase– Controls whether players can expand the base or claim new areas.canAccessInventories– Controls access to storage containers.
For example, you could give trusted builders permission to modify structures while preventing visitors from accidentally destroying something.
On Pine Hosting, these permissions can be configured through your server files. Our guide on configuring Enshrouded user roles covers the process.
Organize Shared Building Materials
Large Enshrouded building projects require plenty of materials, especially when you're constructing walls, towers, and decorative structures.
Instead of having everyone store resources in their own houses, create a shared storage area near your main construction site.
Separate building blocks, raw materials, and decorations into different containers so players can quickly find what they need.
It's also useful to place Workbenches and production stations close to your storage area. Building blocks can be crafted at the Workbench, so keeping everything nearby makes large-scale construction much more convenient.
For particularly big projects, consider putting temporary supply chests near the structures you're working on.
That way, builders don't have to run across the entire village whenever they need more materials.
Avoid Overlapping Builds And Improve Your Designs
When several players are building at once, it's easy for structures to overlap or for someone to accidentally remove another player's work.
The simplest solution is to agree on the general layout before construction starts.
If you're building a village, mark out roads and building plots first. For castles, decide where the main walls and towers will connect.
You should also think about how the finished build will look.
Enshrouded provides different building materials, and mixing them can make structures much more interesting.
Try using stone for foundations, wood for upper floors, and different block types to add detail to walls and entrances.
Lighting can make a big difference, too. Torches along pathways, lanterns near entrances, and fireplaces inside buildings help large bases feel less empty.
Finally, don't forget about functionality. Wide doorways, accessible staircases, and clearly connected pathways make a base much more enjoyable to use.
Adjust Server Settings For Easier Building
If your community spends most of its time constructing buildings, you might want to reduce the amount of resource grinding.
Enshrouded allows server owners to customize gameplay settings through the enshrouded_server.json configuration file.
Some useful settings for building-focused servers include:
miningDamageFactor– Increase this to mine materials more efficiently.resourceDropStackAmountFactor– Increase the amount of resources received in applicable loot stacks.factoryProductionSpeedFactor– Speed up production at crafting stations.plantGrowthSpeedFactor– Make crops grow faster for community farms.
To customize these settings individually, set gameSettingsPreset to Custom.
Alternatively, the Relaxed difficulty preset provides an easier experience with more resources and fewer combat interruptions.
You can find more information in our Enshrouded server settings guide.
Keep Your Building Community Growing With Pine Hosting
The best multiplayer building projects often take weeks to complete. Having a dedicated server makes this much easier because players don't need to wait for the person hosting the world to come online.
With our Enshrouded server hosting, your community can access the same world independently, allowing different players to contribute whenever they have time.
Our custom game panel also includes a file manager for changing server settings, user management features, and a backup manager to help protect your progress.
Backups are especially important when players are making major changes to structures that took hours to build.
When comparing the best Enshrouded server hosting options, these management features are worth considering alongside server performance.
Whether you're constructing a small village or an enormous medieval fortress, a reliable shared server and a few simple building rules can help turn your group's ideas into something impressive.
