Minecraft server RAM usage can vary based on the type of server you are running. A very basic server could only use 1GB of memory, while large-scale modded servers can use upwards of 12GB. We have created this handy tool to allow you to estimate your Minecraft server RAM usage based on your world size, estimated plugins, and total players.
This is only an estimate because your Minecraft version, server type, modpack size and plugins can all drastically affect the server RAM usage. This tool should just be used as a general estimation for a modern Minecraft server. Server owners are also able to do many things to optimize their RAM usage which can result in much lower memory usage in some cases.
Reducing RAM usage on your Minecraft server can be done by optimizing your startup parameters and lowering the view distance. Server owners can also make use of many Minecraft plugins that clear mobs, items, or active chunks that can cause memory spikes. Our panel allows users to easily make these changes to their server without advanced technical knowledge. We also allow you to easily install many different server JARs that can help reduce memory usage.
Minecraft dedicated server requirements depend on the server use case but we recommend a minimum of 1GB of RAM, with 4GB+ being much more optimal for most people.
For larger networks and servers with many players, it might make sense to opt for a dedicated server for maximum performance and control.
