Choosing the right skills in Enshrouded can make a huge difference during your first few hours. With so many abilities available, knowing where to spend your skill points isn't always straightforward, especially if you're still figuring out your preferred playstyle.

Enshrouded 1.0 introduced new abilities and rebalanced several existing ones, making early skill choices even more important. Whether you're exploring solo or playing with friends on an Enshrouded server, this guide covers the best skills to unlock first, which abilities suit different builds, and how to earn more skill points.

How Does The Skill Tree Work In Enshrouded 1.0?

Enshrouded uses a shared skill tree where you can unlock abilities from different combat specializations. You aren't locked into a single class, meaning you can combine melee, ranged, and magic abilities to create your own build.

The skill tree contains three main combat areas:

  • Warrior: Focuses on melee damage, defensive abilities, and survivability.
  • Ranger: Specializes in bows, daggers, stamina, and mobility.
  • Mage: Provides magical damage, healing abilities, and mana-related improvements.

There are also general skills available to every build, including Double Jump and several resource-gathering abilities.

With the release of Enshrouded 1.0, existing characters had their skill trees reset, allowing players to redistribute their points among the updated abilities.

Best Skills To Unlock First In Enshrouded

Some skills provide immediate benefits regardless of your preferred weapon. These are the abilities we recommend prioritizing when starting a new character.

Double Jump

Double Jump is arguably the best first skill to unlock in Enshrouded.

It costs just 2 skill points and allows you to jump a second time while airborne, consuming 10 stamina.

This makes climbing obstacles, navigating ruins, and avoiding enemy attacks considerably easier.

Since Double Jump is located near the center of the skill tree, every build can access it immediately. It's particularly useful when combined with the Glider for exploring Embervale.

Runner

Runner increases your sprinting speed while reducing the stamina consumed when sprinting.

Each skill level improves sprint speed by 5% and reduces stamina consumption by another 5%, up to 15% at maximum rank.

This is particularly useful for players who spend considerable time exploring or gathering resources.

Water Aura

Water Aura provides passive healing to you and nearby allies, making it one of the most useful survival abilities.

The amount healed scales with your Intelligence attribute, while additional skill levels increase the healing radius.

Although it's located in the Mage area, melee and ranged players can also benefit from unlocking it.

Power Parry And Merciless Attack

Power Parry improves your ability to fill an enemy's stun bar when successfully parrying attacks.

Once an enemy becomes overpowered, Merciless Attack allows you to perform a powerful finishing attack dealing 500% damage.

These two abilities work particularly well together, especially for melee-focused players.

Best Beginner Skills For Melee, Ranger, And Mage Builds

Once you've unlocked a few general abilities, you should start investing in skills that complement your preferred weapon.

Best Melee Skills

Melee builds should prioritize Strength and Constitution.

Strength increases melee damage, while Constitution provides additional health, allowing you to survive longer during close-range encounters.

Power Parry and Merciless Attack are particularly valuable for players who regularly block and counter enemy attacks.

Focus on survivability first, then invest in weapon specialization skills as you become more comfortable with combat.

Best Ranger Skills

Ranger builds benefit most from Dexterity and Endurance.

Dexterity improves damage with bows and daggers, while Endurance increases your maximum stamina.

Runner is an excellent early investment, while Survival Instinct is particularly useful when fighting inside the Shroud.

Survival Instinct restores 3 seconds of Shroud time per skill level when you defeat a Shroud-infested enemy using a bow or dagger.

This gives ranged players more freedom to explore dangerous areas without constantly worrying about the Shroud timer.

Best Mage Skills

Mage builds should prioritize Intelligence for additional magic damage and Spirit for increased mana.

Water Aura is an excellent early ability because it provides continuous healing without relying entirely on consumables.

As your build develops, you can invest in abilities such as Blink, which replaces your normal dodge roll with a short-range teleport.

Blink is especially useful for repositioning when enemies get too close.

Best Skills For Exploration And Survival

Not every valuable skill improves your combat damage. Some abilities make everyday exploration, mining, and resource gathering significantly easier.

Updraft is one of the best exploration abilities to consider after unlocking Double Jump. It allows you to gain additional height while gliding, helping you cross difficult terrain and reach otherwise inaccessible locations. However, it requires 100 mana per use.

Mason is another useful early skill, increasing the damage your tools deal to stone by 10% per rank. Meanwhile, Miner provides a 10% chance to obtain an additional resource when mining.

Players who enjoy building large bases may benefit from investing in these gathering abilities earlier.

How To Get More Skill Points In Enshrouded

Unlocking additional abilities requires skill points, which can be earned through three main activities.

Leveling Up

Every time you gain a level, you receive 2 skill points.

Enshrouded 1.0 increased the maximum character level to 50, giving players more opportunities to strengthen their builds through progression.

If you're playing with friends on a dedicated Enshrouded server, you can also adjust experience multipliers through your Enshrouded server settings, allowing characters to level up faster and unlock new skills without as much grinding.

Destroying Shroud Roots

Destroying a standalone Shroud Root rewards you with 1 skill point.

These roots can be found throughout Embervale, often inside Shrouded areas. Clearing them is an excellent way to earn additional points without relying entirely on leveling.

Clearing Elixir Wells

Elixir Wells reward 3 skill points when you destroy their Shroud Root for the first time.

Because these locations frequently contain dangerous enemies, make sure your equipment is appropriate for the area before attempting them.

Skill point rewards from individual Roots and Wells can only be earned once per character.

How To Reset Your Skills In Enshrouded

You don't need to worry about permanently ruining your character by choosing the wrong abilities.

Enshrouded allows you to reset your skill points at a Flame Altar using Runes.

To reset your skills:

  1. Travel to one of your Flame Altars.
  2. Interact with the altar and select Reskill.
  3. Choose whether to refund individual skill nodes or reset your entire skill tree.
  4. Pay the required Runes to recover your spent skill points.
  5. Open your skill tree and redistribute the points.

Respeccing generally costs 1 Rune per refunded skill point.

This makes experimenting with different builds relatively affordable, particularly during the early game when you haven't invested many points.

Choosing Skills For Multiplayer

When playing Enshrouded with friends, choosing complementary skills can make difficult encounters considerably easier.

For example, one player can focus on melee combat and defensive abilities while another specializes in ranged damage. A third player can invest in Water Aura and other healing abilities to keep the group alive during tougher encounters.

Saviour is another useful multiplayer skill, reducing the time required to revive a fallen teammate by up to 3 seconds at maximum rank.

You don't necessarily need to assign everyone a specific role, but having a good balance of damage, defense, and healing can make a noticeable difference when exploring dangerous areas together.
