Valheim 1.0 finally introduced achievements after more than five years in Early Access, giving players another reason to explore every biome, defeat every boss, build bigger settlements and experiment with parts of the game they may normally ignore.

Steam currently lists 53 Valheim achievements covering everything from simply entering the tenth world to defeating every boss on Hard difficulty and sailing enormous distances.

If you are starting a fresh playthrough or bringing an existing Valheim server into 1.0, there are a few important rules you should understand before trying to complete them all.

How Do Valheim Achievements Work?

Achievement tracking only started when Valheim 1.0 released.

Progress completed during Early Access does not automatically count. For example, defeating Eikthyr before installing 1.0 will not unlock his achievement when you first load your old save. You need to defeat him again after achievement tracking has started. Iron Gate confirmed the same rule applies to statistics used by other achievements.

This means you can still use an existing world, but players interested in earning achievements naturally may find a new playthrough easier.

If you are deciding whether to reset, our guide to starting a new Valheim world for 1.0 explains the advantages of both options.

All 53 Valheim Achievements

Steam lists 53 achievements in Valheim 1.0. They cover bosses, multiplayer, construction, gathering, exploration, crafting and several unusual challenges.

The eight boss achievements follow Valheim's normal progression from Eikthyr through Kall Fimbulbringer.

Combat And Multiplayer Achievements

Achievement How To Unlock
Stronger TogetherDefeat a boss while playing with another player.
Lone WolfDefeat a boss by yourself.
Odin is PleasedDefeat every miniboss.
The VikingDefeat every main boss on any difficulty.
The Tough VikingDefeat every boss on Normal difficulty or above.
The Toughest VikingDefeat every boss on Hard difficulty.
The HunterKill every creature type.
The Master HunterKill every creature type while playing on Hard.
The Trophy CollectorCollect every creature trophy.

If you are aiming for all difficulty-related achievements, completing the boss and creature requirements on Hard can reduce the amount of repeated progression required.

Building And Comfort Achievements

Achievement How To Unlock
The Homesteader Build a house.
The Architect Build a village.
The Builder Place 500 building pieces.
Mighty Halls Raise a very tall structure.
Top of the World Build something at a very high elevation.
The Carpenter Build every required type of buildable object.
Comfort is King Reach a comfort level of 20.

Steam confirms requirements including 500 building pieces and Comfort Level 20, while some of the more unusual building achievements deliberately use less specific descriptions.

Food, Farming And Gathering Achievements

Several Valheim achievements reward the everyday work that goes into maintaining a long-term world, including farming, cooking, fishing and gathering resources.

Achievement How To Unlock
No Adventuring On an Empty Stomach Eat 500 items of food.
The Forager Pick 250 berries and 250 mushrooms.
The Beekeeper Harvest 500 honey.
The Farmer Harvest 500 crops.
The Cook Cook 100 dishes.
The Lumberjack Cut down 500 trees.
The Master Chef Cook every kind of dish.
The Gourmet Eat every kind of edible item.
The Fisherman Catch every kind of fish.
A Catch Worthy of Njord Catch a four-star fish.

Many of these achievements overlap naturally during a long playthrough. Farming and cooking regularly, for example, will gradually contribute toward several different achievements at once.

Crafting Achievements In Valheim 1.0

There are also three achievements focused directly on crafting.

Achievement How To Unlock
The Artisan Craft every kind of item.
The Blacksmith Craft every kind of weapon.
The Chosen One Assemble Dyrnwyn.

The Artisan and Blacksmith encourage players to explore crafting options they might normally skip, while The Chosen One specifically requires assembling Dyrnwyn.

Exploration And Sailing Achievements

Valheim 1.0 also rewards players who travel far beyond their starting island.

Achievement How To Unlock
The Explorer Travel far in all four directions.
The Pathfinder Travel far in all four directions without using the map.
The Sailor Sail far enough to circle the world twice.
The Captain Sail far enough to circle the world while manning the helm.
The Treasure Hunter Discover 10 buried treasure chests.
No Time For Snoozing Awaken a sea creature.
The Legends Are True Sail over the edge of the world.

The Captain and Sailor achievements are particularly long-term goals, while The Pathfinder adds an extra challenge by requiring exploration without using the map.

Survival And Death Achievements

Not every Valheim achievement rewards staying alive.

Several specifically require dying in unusual ways, while The Survivor does the exact opposite.

Achievement How To Unlock
The First of Many Die for the first time.
Accidents Happen Get killed by a falling tree.
That Can't Be an Accident Get killed by every kind of tree.
Obliterated Die from an explosion.
Are You Alright? Die in every possible way.
The Survivor Survive for 30 consecutive days.

If you are aiming for 100% completion, it can make sense to finish the death-related achievements before attempting a 30-day survival streak.

Kings And Queens Of Valheim And Child Of Odin

Two of the final achievements combine several other challenges.

Achievement Requirement
Kings and Queens of Valheim Embody the spirits of the Viking, Hunter, Artisan, Master Chef, Carpenter and Explorer.
Child of Odin Embody the spirits of the Toughest Viking, Master Hunter, Survivor and Pathfinder.

These are effectively completion milestones that unlock after completing their required groups of achievements. Steam lists both as part of the official 53-achievement set.

Can You Get Valheim Achievements On An Old World?

Yes, but achievements only track relevant progress completed after Valheim 1.0.

If you defeated a boss before the full release, for example, loading the old save does not automatically give you that boss achievement. You need to complete the requirement again after achievement tracking has begun.

This means you can continue using an established character and world, but players trying to complete all 53 achievements may find a fresh playthrough more straightforward.

Do Mods And Devcommands Disable Valheim Achievements?

Mods and developer commands can affect achievement eligibility.

Valheim's first post-1.0 hotfix also added a Steam-specific way for players who had previously been blocked because of devcommand usage to opt back into achievements. Iron Gate deliberately leaves the choice of whether to use that function to the player.

If your achievements are not unlocking, first check whether your character or world has been flagged and make sure you are playing on the latest Valheim version.

You can read more about the post-launch achievement changes in our Valheim 1.0.10 and 1.0.12 hotfix guide.

Can You Earn Valheim Achievements On A Multiplayer Server?

Yes. Achievements can be earned while playing multiplayer, and some are specifically designed around playing with other Vikings.

Stronger Together requires defeating a boss with another player, while many gathering, exploration, crafting and progression achievements can naturally be completed on a shared world.

Running a persistent server also makes some of the larger achievement grinds easier to work toward because players can continue farming, building, sailing and progressing even when the original world host is offline.
