Valheim 1.0 only launched on September 9, but Iron Gate has already released its first major set of hotfixes.
Valheim 1.0.10 and 1.0.12 released on September 11, 2026, fixing several issues introduced with the full release. The update includes fixes for Deep North heavy armour, crashes, item stands, server banlists and whitelists, achievements, snow interactions and more.
The version you receive depends on your platform. Patch 1.0.10 contains the wider set of fixes, while Steam players also received the additional 1.0.12 changes. Xbox displays its equivalent build as 1.0.11.
There is also an important temporary crossplay issue affecting Nintendo Switch 2 players.
Here is everything that changed and what Valheim server owners should know before updating.
What Version Is The Latest Valheim Hotfix?
The September 11 Valheim hotfix uses slightly different version numbers depending on the platform.
| Platform | Hotfix Version |
|---|---|
| Steam | 1.0.12 |
| Xbox | 1.0.11 |
| Other updated platforms | 1.0.10 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Patch temporarily unavailable as of September 14 |
Xbox version 1.0.11 is functionally identical to patch 1.0.10.
Steam players received 1.0.12 because Iron Gate included several additional Steam-specific fixes that are intended to reach the other platforms in a later hotfix.
As of September 14, the September 11 hotfix remains the latest update listed on the official Valheim website.
What Changed In Valheim 1.0.10?
Patch 1.0.10 mainly addresses problems within the new Deep North biome alongside several smaller gameplay improvements.
Deep North Heavy Armour Can Now Be Repaired
One of the most important fixes affects the new endgame heavy armour.
Players can now correctly repair Deep North heavy armour instead of being stuck with equipment that would eventually become unusable once its durability dropped.
For anyone already progressing through the Deep North, this is one of the strongest reasons to install the hotfix immediately.
Deep North Greydwarf Shamans Have Been Fixed
Greydwarf Shamans appearing in the Deep North were not dealing and healing the intended amounts.
The hotfix corrects both their damage and healing values, meaning encounters involving these enemies should now behave as intended.
Snow Interactions Have Been Adjusted
Iron Gate also fixed several smaller interactions involving the Deep North snow system.
Punching will no longer remove snow from the ground. Landing directly on snow, however, can now correctly remove it even if the player has not walked across the area first.
Several creature and environmental sound effects within the Deep North were also updated.
What Changed In Valheim 1.0.12?
Steam players received several additional fixes through Valheim 1.0.12.
Iron Gate has stated that these changes are compatible with crossplay and are planned to arrive on other platforms through another hotfix.
Forge Of Potential Recipe Unlocks Have Been Fixed
Using the Forge of Potential could previously unlock recipes that the player had not actually progressed far enough to obtain.
Patch 1.0.12 fixes this behaviour so recipes should now unlock through their intended progression requirements.
Item Stands No Longer Reset Items In Certain Situations
One of the more serious Valheim 1.0 issues involved armour stands and item stands.
Items removed from these stands could lose their durability or upgrade level. Patch 1.0.12 prevents this from happening if the player has not been near the affected stand since Valheim 1.0 released.
There is an important warning, however.
Iron Gate is still working on a more complete fix and specifically recommends caution when removing valuable upgraded items, weapons, armour or fish from stands in worlds that have already been played since 1.0.
Create a backup before removing important items from existing stands.
For dedicated servers, this is particularly important because several different players may have loaded the affected area since the update.
Valheim 1.0.12 Fixes A Zone Loading Crash
The hotfix also fixes a crash that could occur when a player attempted to access a zone that had not been loaded.
This change may be especially useful for multiplayer worlds where different players frequently explore separate areas of the map and trigger additional zones.
While the fix does not mean every possible Valheim crash has been eliminated, server owners experiencing crashes immediately after the 1.0 release should make sure both their server and players are using the newest available version.
Valheim Banlists And Whitelists Have Been Fixed
Patch 1.0.12 contains an important fix for Valheim server administrators.
After Valheim 1.0, the banlist and whitelist systems had a compatibility problem with older player IDs.
The lists could work with newer IDs such as:
V_123456789
but could fail when using older ID formats such as:
Steam_123456789
The hotfix restores compatibility with the older IDs.
If you run a private or community Valheim server and experienced unexpected whitelist or banlist problems after updating to 1.0, updating to the newest server build should therefore be one of your first troubleshooting steps.
Can You Get Achievements After Using Mods Or Devcommands?
Valheim 1.0 introduced achievements, but using mods or developer commands can prevent achievements from being awarded.
Patch 1.0.12 introduces a way for Steam players to opt back into achievements even if they have previously used mods or devcommands.
Iron Gate added the following devcommand, written without spaces:
yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway
The update also adds a clearer popup explaining when achievements can be earned again after they have temporarily been disabled.
This does not automatically re-enable achievements for everyone who has used developer commands. It gives the player the choice to opt back in.
Other Valheim 1.0.12 Fixes
A few smaller gameplay problems were also addressed.
Carts should now fit through the Timberwood Drawbridge more easily, which should make transporting resources through Deep North bases less frustrating.
Jotun Puffs and Magecaps have also been fixed so they no longer visually appear ready to pick after they have already been harvested.
Is Valheim Crossplay Working After The Hotfix?
For most platforms, yes.
Iron Gate says the additional Steam fixes in 1.0.12 remain compatible with players using the equivalent builds on other supported platforms.
There is currently one major exception: Nintendo Switch 2.
Iron Gate was unable to upload the September 11 patch to Switch 2 because of an unforeseen issue. As a result, Switch 2 players currently cannot crossplay with players on the updated versions of Valheim on other platforms.
As of September 14, Iron Gate's official news page has not published a newer patch announcement resolving the problem.
This situation is expected to be temporary, but groups containing Switch 2 players should check the latest Valheim patch information before updating or arranging their next multiplayer session.
Should You Update Your Valheim Server?
Yes. If you are running a dedicated Valheim 1.0 server, keeping it on the newest available server build is recommended.
The hotfix includes fixes relevant to multiplayer servers, including crashes, whitelist and banlist compatibility and several gameplay problems.
Before updating, however, create a fresh world backup.
This is particularly important because Iron Gate is still investigating the item stand issue and explicitly recommends using backups before removing valuable items that may have been affected.
A sensible update process is:
- Stop your Valheim server.
- Create a new backup of the world.
- Update the dedicated server to the latest available version.
- Update any compatible server-side mods.
- Restart the server.
- Confirm players are also running current game versions.
- Test the server before removing valuable upgraded items from existing item stands.
If you self-host, you can update the Valheim Dedicated Server through Steam or SteamCMD.
Modded server owners should also remember that a game update does not automatically guarantee compatibility with BepInEx or individual mods.
How To Update A Pine Hosting Valheim Server
If your Valheim server is hosted with Pine Hosting, you do not need to manually update the installation through SteamCMD.
Before updating:
- Stop the server.
- Open the Backups tab and create a fresh backup.
- Open the Start tab.
- Make sure Auto Update is enabled.
- Restart the server.
With Auto Update enabled, the newest available Valheim server files are fetched when the server starts. Pine Hosting's existing Valheim update guide documents the same update process for hosted servers.
Creating the backup first is particularly worthwhile for this hotfix because of the ongoing item stand issue.
Host A Valheim 1.0 Server With Pine Hosting
Valheim 1.0 introduces the Deep North, new progression, achievements, equipment and plenty of reasons to bring an old Viking group back together.
Running your own dedicated server gives that group a persistent world to explore without relying on one player's PC being online.
With Pine Hosting Valheim server hosting, you can manage updates, create and restore backups, configure your server, manage files and run a persistent Valheim world through an easy-to-use game panel.
New servers are deployed with the latest available Valheim version, while existing servers can use automatic updates to stay current as Iron Gate continues releasing post-1.0 fixes.
Whether you are beginning a completely new 1.0 playthrough or taking an established world into the Deep North, having reliable backups and straightforward update controls makes handling hotfixes considerably easier.
