Rust’s August update, Power Trip, has arrived with a major focus on Player Maintained Monuments.
The new system connects several existing monuments through shared infrastructure, giving players new ways to restore power, activate machinery, generate resources and influence events across the map.
For anyone playing on or managing a Rust server, the update introduces plenty of new objectives to fight over, alongside the Satellite Crash event, monument changes, balance updates and quality-of-life improvements.
Player Maintained Monuments
The main feature of Power Trip is the new Player Maintained Monuments system.
Power Plant has essentially become the centre of an island-wide electrical grid. Players can restore electricity there, which activates new functionality across several monuments and roadside systems.

The main feature of Power Trip is the new Player Maintained Monuments system.
Power Plant has essentially become the centre of an island-wide electrical grid. Players can restore electricity there, which activates new functionality across several monuments and roadside systems.
These include:
- Launch Site
- Dome
- Large and Small Oil Rig
- Water Treatment Plant
- Airfield
- Oxum’s Gas Station
- Abandoned Supermarket
- Roadside electrical poles
For active Rust servers, this creates new reasons for groups to contest and maintain Power Plant throughout a wipe.
Restoring Power With Heavy Fuses
Power Plant now uses a new item called the Heavy Fuse. Heavy Fuses can be inserted into special fuse boxes to restore parts of the electrical grid.

They gradually deteriorate while being used, meaning Power Plant needs continued maintenance rather than being permanently activated early in a wipe.
As more power becomes available, additional systems around the map begin operating.

Red Recycler At Power Plant
Power Plant now contains a special red recycler that becomes available at maximum power.
It offers 75% recycling efficiency and a four-second recycling cycle, making it more efficient than standard recyclers.
Improved Recycler Efficiency
Standard green recyclers outside safe zones now operate at 50% efficiency by default.
With enough island power, they return to 60% efficiency. At maximum power, their recycling cycle is also reduced to 4.5 seconds.
Powered Freezer At Abandoned Supermarket

Abandoned Supermarket also benefits from the restored electrical grid.
Its new powered freezer generates chilled food while electricity is available, giving players another small incentive to keep Power Plant operational.
New Satellite Crash Event
One of the biggest additions is the new Satellite Crash event at Launch Site.

Once enough power has been restored to the island, players can use a Satellite Control Computer together with an Aiming Module to begin the event.
Players choose a satellite and use its remaining thruster burns to influence where it will crash.
Using more thruster fuel provides greater control over the landing area. Saving more of that fuel, however, can increase the value of parts recovered from the wreckage.
Once the crash location is selected, the satellite begins descending toward the map, creating a highly visible event other players can contest.
The wreck creates a radiation zone, and its crates remain too hot to immediately loot.
Potential rewards include:
- High Quality Metal
- Tech Trash
- CCTV Cameras
- Targeting Computers
- Turret components
- Aiming Modules
The wreckage can also contain Thruster Modules that can be recycled for additional resources.
Dome Can Now Produce Crude Oil
Dome has gained an entirely new purpose through the island power system.

Once enough electricity is available, switches at the Oil Rigs can activate crude oil production at Dome.
Large Oil Rig provides the full production rate, while Small Oil Rig provides around half. Activating both increases production further.
The pumps run for roughly 20 minutes.
Collecting the crude requires players to connect a vehicle Tanker Module using the Hose Tool. The tanker can then transport the crude away from Dome before it is extracted using a car lift.
This gives modular vehicles and Tanker Modules a much more important role during normal progression.
Water Treatment Can Supply Water Across The Island

Water Treatment Plant is also connected to the new infrastructure system.
Roadside water pipes can now appear around the map, but they remain inactive until Water Treatment is operating.
Inside the monument, players can insert gears into new gearboxes to pressurize the central water tank while electricity is available.
Once enough pressure has built up, water becomes available through the roadside pipe network.
Players can connect to these pipes using the Hose Tool, making them particularly useful for farming bases.
Finding a location close to both a powered electrical pole and a water connection could now be extremely valuable for players building farms.
Oxum's Gas Station Gets A Working Car Garage

Oxum’s Gas Station now has a functional garage and car lift.
When connected to the electrical grid, players can use the lift to repair and customize modular vehicles.
A backup generator powered with Low Grade Fuel is also available if the island grid is offline.
The lift is particularly useful for the new Dome crude oil system, as Tanker Modules need to be placed on a car lift before their stored crude can be removed.
Raising the lift also reveals an underground area containing vehicle-related loot.
Airfield Can Influence Airdrops

Airfield's control tower now contains two powered terminals.
One terminal can increase the frequency of normal airdrops across the map, while the larger terminal can call in a Chinook resupply crate near the Airfield runway.
Both systems depend on available island power and need time to recharge after activation.
This makes Airfield another location that becomes considerably more useful when players keep Power Plant operational.
High External Walls Now Have Upkeep

High External Wooden Walls, High External Stone Walls and their gates now contribute a static 20% upkeep cost when connected to a nearby building.
The change is particularly relevant for large compounds and external Tool Cupboard setups.
This makes claiming huge areas with external walls more expensive while keeping compounds viable for normal bases.
Important Balance Changes
Power Trip also includes a large collection of smaller balance adjustments:
- Auto Turrets now require 25 High Quality Metal instead of 10.
- AKs once again spawn with four Rifle Bullets.
- Bucket Helmet crafting costs have been reduced.
- Bucket Helmets received improved projectile and bite protection.
- Collared Shirts received improved projectile and radiation protection.
- Blowpipes now require 10 Cloth instead of 25.
- Wooden Dart damage increased from 40 to 50.
- Snow Jackets received improved cold and bite protection.
- Spoiled Produce stack size increased from 10 to 20.
- Catapult reload time increased from three to six seconds.
- Wolf Headdresses now require a Level 1 Workbench.
- Resource nodes and wood piles can no longer spawn inside safe zones.
- Fishing Village vendors now sell usable Kayaks and Paddles instead of blueprints.
Water Well vendors have also been nerfed. Their stock has been reduced from 10 items to two, while their restock time increased from two minutes to ten minutes.
Quality-Of-Life And Performance Changes
A number of smaller improvements also arrived with the August update:
- Beds and sleeping bags can now be selected and displayed on the compass.
- Sleeping bags can be marked as favourites so important respawn points appear first.
- The Recycle Bin Workbench upgrade now has dedicated storage for generated items.
- Hover looting clothing has been improved when replacing equipped gear.
- Shields now have a stance toggle for switching between blocking and carrying them on your back.
- Rust now loads only the assets required for the main menu first, helping reduce startup times.
- Terrain shaders, weather effects, menus and the F1 console received performance optimizations.
- Experimental UsePlayerUpdateJobs 4 now includes parallel entity saving to reduce server-side bottlenecks.
- The Small Backpack can now receive community-created Workshop skins.
- Rust's demo viewer received new timeline, camera, lighting and scene-management tools.
For larger or heavily modded Rust hosting setups, server optimization remains especially important as entity counts, player counts, plugins and map size increase.
If you're planning a new server and aren't sure how much memory you'll need, using a Rust RAM calculator can provide a useful starting point before choosing your hosting resources.
Bar Games Pack And Stone Sculpture

The premium Bar Games Pack adds several new social and decorative items, including:
- Playable Pool
- Playable Darts
- An interactive Jukebox
- Bar stools
- Mini Fridge skin
- Shotgun Trap skin
- Wallpapers
- Sprays
The update also adds the premium Stone Sculpture, which players can manually carve and reshape using different sculpting tools.
Players can remove material, add stone and smooth surfaces to create their own designs.
