Rust’s October 2026 update arrives today, October 1, bringing one of the biggest expansions to farming and animal gameplay the game has seen. The update introduces cows, bulls, calves, sheep and lambs alongside new resources, food recipes, livestock infrastructure and a Biofuel Generator.
There are also major changes outside farming, including new Power Grid loot rooms, an overhaul to sandbag barricades, a new Airwolf Helipad repair mechanic and improvements to thrown explosives.
Whether you are jumping into the force wipe or preparing your own Rust server, here is everything coming with the October Rust update.
Cows, Bulls, Calves, Sheep And Lambs

Livestock is the headline addition to the October update. Rust is adding cows, bulls, calves, sheep and lambs as animals that can become part of a much larger farming system rather than simply acting like existing wildlife.
Keeping livestock opens up several new resources. Cows introduce beef and milk, while sheep provide mutton and wool. Beef and mutton can appear as raw, cooked or spoiled food, while milk can be processed further into skimmed milk and cream.
Livestock can also be transported instead of forcing players to slowly lead animals across the map. Animals can be mounted onto supported vehicle flatbeds, with larger livestock such as cows requiring the appropriate larger flatbed.
Animal Fences, Gates And An Improved Trough
Keeping a herd inside your compound is going to be much easier thanks to the new Animal Fence and Animal Gate.
The Hitch & Trough is also receiving a major upgrade. It now supports industrial adaptors, allowing it to interact with Rust’s industrial system, while a new water section comes with its own IO attachment.
This makes livestock considerably more viable for established bases. Instead of animals feeling like something separate from the rest of your farming setup, food, water and automation can now become part of the same system.
Milk, Wool And New Food Recipes

Livestock also brings a surprisingly large expansion to Rust’s food system.
The October update adds:
- Beef Pie
- Shepherd’s Pie
- Brioche Bread
- Creamy and Milky Pure Tea variants
- Rich versions of pies
Beef Pie is particularly interesting because its effect increases how much food a player can consume for a period of time. This can also improve the chance of recovering after being downed when your hunger is filled.
Shepherd’s Pie is tied more closely to livestock itself, helping animals bond with players faster and making bulls easier to manage.
Cream also gives players another reason to maintain cows. It can be used for Rich versions of pies as well as Creamy Tea variants.
Tea processing is changing too. Creamy versions generally provide a stronger effect for a shorter duration, while Milky versions extend the duration. For example, a Creamy Pure Ore Tea can provide a stronger ore yield boost, while the Milky version trades that extra strength for a longer-lasting effect.
The New Biofuel Generator

Food that would otherwise sit unused now has another purpose thanks to the Biofuel Generator.
Players can place food into the generator and process it into Low Grade Fuel. The mixture needs to be periodically stirred while it is being converted, so it is not simply a completely passive source of fuel.
For farmers and larger groups producing huge amounts of food, the Biofuel Generator creates another way to turn excess farming resources into something useful.
Livestock Vendor At The Large Barn
The Large Barn is also getting a livestock vendor.
Players can bring grown Sheep, Cows or Bulls to the vendor and sell them in exchange for rewards. Wool can also be sold, giving sheep farms another way of generating value without killing the animals.
This gives livestock an economy outside simply harvesting meat and resources. Raising healthier or more valuable animals can now become another progression route during a wipe.
New Power Grid Loot Rooms
The Power Grid system is expanding again with new loot rooms across several Rust monuments.

The new rooms are split between three power phases:
Power Phase 1
- Harbours
- Ferry Terminal
- Junkyard
Power Phase 2
- Water Treatment Plant
- Sewer Branch
- Airfield
- Radtown
- Train Yard
Power Phase 3
- Military Tunnels
- Nuclear Missile Silo
- Launch Site, with two new rooms

This gives players considerably more reasons to interact with the island-wide power system introduced in previous updates. Higher Power Phases extend the system into some of Rust’s most valuable monuments, adding another consideration when planning monument runs during a wipe.
Sandbag Barricades Have Been Overhauled

Sandbag Barricades are becoming much more flexible defensive deployables.
Instead of having a single fixed version, sandbags can now be built up through four different stages. Players simply deploy another sandbag onto the existing barricade to increase its height and configuration.
Placement previews help show where the next stage will go, while the system prevents upgrades where nearby objects would block the larger barricade.
The result is a deployable that can be gradually built into much more substantial cover rather than remaining a small early-game obstacle.
Airwolf Helipad Must Now Be Repaired After A Wipe

Airwolf is getting a significant wipe-day change.
The Airwolf Helipad will now begin each wipe destroyed. Before players can purchase vehicles from Airwolf, the helipad needs to be repaired using:
- 30,000 Wood
- 10,000 Metal Fragments
- 100 Rope
This could make the opening stages of a wipe more interesting, as access to Airwolf vehicles now depends on the helipad being restored rather than immediately becoming available.
Ladder Hatch Skins And A Machete Refresh

All Ladder Hatches are becoming Workshop-skinnable with the October update, opening another building component to community-created skins.
The Machete is also receiving an art refresh with updated models, improving its entity, world and first-person appearance without fundamentally changing what the weapon is used for.
Better C4, Satchel And Grenade Throwing
Thrown explosives should also feel noticeably smoother.
Client-side prediction is being added for thrown C4, Satchel Charges and Grenades. Instead of waiting entirely for the server to update the position of a thrown explosive, the client can immediately predict its movement.
This does not change explosive damage or make C4 travel farther. It primarily makes throwing explosives feel more responsive and visually consistent, particularly when latency is involved.
Play The Rust Livestock Update On Your Own Server
The October update adds much more than a few new animals. Livestock introduces an entirely new resource and farming loop, while Biofuel, expanded food recipes, new Power Grid loot rooms and the Airwolf changes give players plenty of new systems to explore during the force wipe.
If you want to experience the update with your own rules, plugins or community, you can start your own server with the best Rust server hosting from Pine Hosting. Our Rust hosting includes instant setup, DDoS protection, automatic updates, plugin support and an easy-to-use control panel, so you can focus on building your server and jumping straight into the new wipe.
