Are you unable to connect to your Rust server ?. Don't worry we got you covered. This guide covers 99.9% of cases causing frequent disconnects, or kicks.

Common Causes & Fixes:

  1. Unstable Internet Connection (Host or Client-Side)
Fix: Restart your router and use a wired (Ethernet) connection for better stability. Even if the server is hosted remotely, your own connection quality affects your ability to stay connected.

  2. Server-Side Crashes or Misconfigurations
Fix: Check your server console or logs for errors, crashes, or mod/plugin issues. Remove or disable recently added plugins if problems started after installation.

  3. High Ping or Latency to the Server Location
Fix: Choose a server location close to you geographically. High latency can cause you to timeout.

  4. Bandwidth Limitations or Background Usage
Fix: Pause downloads, backups, streaming, or any high-bandwidth activities on the same network you're using to connect to the server.

  5. Firewall or Antivirus Blocking the Game or Port
Fix: On your PC, whitelist Rust and Steam. On the server, ensure required ports (e.g., 28015 UDP) are open and not being blocked.

  6. Corrupted or Outdated Rust Game Files
Fix: On your client PC, verify your game files in Steam:
Steam → Right-click Rust → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.

  7. EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat) Rejections
Fix: EAC errors aren't caused by your server or Rust itself—they’re typically Steam-side. Restart Steam, re-verify Rust, and ensure no system tools are interfering with EAC.

  8. Server and Client Version Mismatch
Fix: Make sure your server is fully updated using SteamCMD. Your client and server must be on the same version of Rust to connect.

  9. Server Timeout or Idle Kick Settings
Fix: Check your server’s timeout settings or AFK kick plugins. These may disconnect you unintentionally, especially if your connection is unstable.

  10. DNS or Local Networking Issues
Fix: Flush your DNS cache by running ipconfig /flushdns in Command Prompt (Admin).

  11. DDoS Attacks (Distributed Denial of Service)
Fix: DDoS attacks can overload your server and cause players (including you) to disconnect.
