So your server commands don't appear to be working or you're seeing a lot of red in console? Fear not! We are here to save the day.
Usually when your Unturned server doesn't appear to work with any commands or is acting weirdly it can be attributed to a syntax error in your permissions file. A syntax error is a type of error in the file such as a misspelled word or a missing character. This causes the whole file to break and can often cause many errors in your server. Thankfully these errors are very common and can be fixed easily.
So, Lets begin! First thing you are going to want to do is confirm that you actually are experiencing a Permissions Syntax error. These errors usually look like this:
To quickly check if your server is experiencing this error, or to check if it has been fixed, you can click the Pine AI button and scan for errors. This button can be found on the bottom right of your server console.
How To Fix:
- Login to your game panel here
- Select the server you want to work on
- Head over to the "File Management" tab
- Go to "Servers/unturned/Rocket" and then open the "Permissions.config.xml" file
- Once you are here it is best to refer to the error in console to see the line and position of the error.
- Using this position you should be able to locate the character/s causing the issue. There will usually be red text near to the error in our file editor.
- If you are still struggling to locate the error you can use an XML Validator to assist you.
- It is suggested to use a default permissions file to compare the format too. To regenerate a new permissions file, simply delete the old one and restart the server. (Make sure to take a backup of your old file if you wish to keep it)
- Once the error is fixed you can restart the server and the scary red text should be gone. This can be confirmed by running Pine AI to make sure the error has been resolved.
